Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly; and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion - for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 6-7)

Salesians of Don Bosco

Do you see Saint John Bosco warmly extending his arms to two youngsters standing beside him? Yes, you are perfectly right; they are three stylized figures. That is Don Bosco with his characteristic fatherly love for every young person. In him, all Salesian educators draw their inspiration to continue to his mission.

Don Bosco spent his life with his boys, and this incomparable experience gave rise to his unique system of education: the Preventive System. Salesian education rests on the friendly presence [the house] of the educators among the young; it is journeying together [the road] through an educational experience marked by reason, religion and loving kindness [the three pillars]. This education aims to build good Christians and honest citizens, which in our own present context takes particular urgency in building servant-leaders for the future of our society.

The background is a heart covered by an "S", elements that recall the pastoral zeal, the kindness, the optimism and the joy of everyday life in any Salesian institution. Such education from the heart and with a heart is inspired by Saint Francis of Sales from whom the name Salesian is derived.

The background also resembles a globe. Talk of 128 countries where more than 17,000 Salesians of Don Bosco [SDB] are presently and tirelessly working for and with the young. We see to it that the young are truly cared for in a variety of ways and wherever we find them.
