Dear Friends,
Speaking to a huge crowd of benefactors in the USA while in a fundraising campaign for the “poorest of the poor”, Mother Teresa said:
“The greatest hunger today is not the hunger for food nor the thirst for drink;
but the hunger for love!”
In the midst of so much plenty – there is poverty. In the midst of so much abundance – there is scarcity. In the midst of so much waste – there is famine and misery. The root of the problem of poverty is lack of opportunity.
Oprah Winfrey donated $40M to build her “dream school” in Africa – to provide opportunity to 400 African girls who otherwise would have nothing to look forward to in the future. Today, it is a reality. She’s been hitting the headlines and burning the wires of CNN because of her generous contribution.
Interviewed why she spent so much for the school, she said:
“I wanted to give the girls the best opportunity – and there is no better opportunity than EDUCATION! It is only education that can save the country! It is only education that can guarantee a bright future for the young.”
THIS IS WHAT DON BOSCO IS ABOUT…. “The Education of the young!”
This is what Don Bosco has been doing in the Philippines as well as all over the world for more than a hundred years. There is little noise. It does not always hit the headlines nor get the footages on CNN News headlines, but GREAT GOOD is done.
You may not be able to build a dream school like Oprah, but you can still be a part of a great dream – by being a SALESIAN MISSION PARTNER.
It took just one – Oprah to start a dream.
It takes only YOU to continue the dream and make it come true.
Wherever you are, you can be a Salesian Missions partner. Send us your checks. Send us your donation forms by mail or by FAX. Or you can use the online interface provided by KabayanCentral.com in this website for donations using your credit card.
May the good Lord bless your generosity and continue to shower your family with the abundance of His blessings.
In Don Bosco,

FR. LARRY TAN SDB
